Drug dealers vs. terrorists — is there really a difference? April 1, 2008

I’d like to preface this post by declaring that I think I live next-door to a drug dealer. Reasons why: 1) the guy stays at his girlfriends’ mother’s apartment ALL day long (so no “job); 2) I have never seen more people entering and exiting a residence in my life; 3) everyone who “visits” looks scared and paranoid out of their minds, and 4) you can smell pot eminating from their 2nd floor balcony ALL THE TIME. Good enough proof huh?

First of all, and I’m definitely not an expert on the War in Iraq, but I think it’s safe to conclude that it’s “religious” war, and that basically the Iraqis are all willing to kill innocent people, and then die themselves, all for their religion. I’m all for my religion but I certainly do not believe in a merciless God nor do I believe he is going to ask me to kill other people all in his Holy name. From my experience dating an Army soldier and being constantly in the know about what’s going on in our world I think I have a pretty clear idea on what these horrible people are doing over in the “Big Sandbox.” Don’t get me wrong, there are innocent Iraqis over there — but if you’re going to strap a bomb to a mentally retarded person and send them out into the town only to have the explosives detonate, what sense does that make? Apparently in their screwed up minds, suicide bombing serves a purpose. Not in MY WORLD, thank you very much.

So secondly, and here comes my point, don’t our “American drug dealers” sort of act in the same manner as these crazy Iraqis? Think about it, someone addicted to a drug is going to do whatever possible to get their fix — even if that means hurting or killing someone else. Similarly, don’t drug dealers (who I guess may or may not consume the drugs they sell) usually “off” clients who don’t pay, or hire an assasin to kill people who rat them out? I think that’s how the movie Go portrays the life of a drug dealer and addicts — and several characters die in that flick.

Maybe, dear readers, you won’t agree with me on this…I don’t know. However, I think it’s safe to say that American drug dealers are like terrorists: They don’t care who they hurt as long as they get their money, their drugs, and their anonymity. ‘Makes me kind of scared knowing that I may live next-door to one — like I don’t have enough to worry about with the love of my life overseas, right?

I’m interested to hear what anyone thinks, so please comment if you wish.
